Prophet used three types of remedies for various ailments: natural, divine and a combination of both natural and divine
Ibn al-Qayyam wrote : The approach of Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم for treating illness was of three types:
1. Natural Remedies: These were treatments using natural substances.
2. Spiritual Remedies: These involved spiritual means, relying on faith and prayer.
3. Combined Remedies: A combination of natural and spiritual medicines.
Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم was primarily sent as a guide, calling people to Allah and His Paradise, teaching them about Allah, indicating the ways to please Him, and warning against actions that incur His displeasure. He informed his Ummah about the Prophets, Messengers, their situations with their people, the creation of the world, matters of the beginning and the end, and the causes of the soul’s happiness or misery.
As for bodily medicine, it was only a supplementary part of his teachings, used only when needed. Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم focused on the healing and well-being of the heart and soul, protecting them from corruption. His main objective was maintaining the health of the soul, and addressing its ailments and preservation from harm.
Healing the body without healing the heart has no lasting benefit. A corrupted body alongside a purified heart causes only minimal harm—a temporary affliction that ultimately leads to eternal and complete benefit. And the success comes from Allah Alone.
